be a DOER of your thing

Be A DOER of your thing

Be a doer of your thing, not a thinker or planner

Be a doer of your thing… whatever it is that you do. Be a regular, and consistent doer. Don’t just think about it, dream about it, or plan about it. Don’t wait to get good before you start. Just do, and keep on doing.

If you are a musician, perform everywhere you can. As consistently as you can. Perform badly if you that’s all you can manage. But perform. Publicly.

If you are a writer, don’t wait to be Hemingway before you write. Write. Right now. Today. As much as you can.

If you are realtor, or a business broker, broker deals. Don’t wait for a perfect deal to fall into your lap. Don’t wait for the big deal either. Those will come when they come. Work on the deals you can finalize today.

If you are a student, study. Not for your exams. Not because a professor told you to. But because that’s what you do.

If you’re a comic, write and tell jokes everyday. Everywhere you can. To anyone who’d listen. Even if all you manage to write are bad jokes.

Consistency leads to habits.

Habits form your destiny. There’s nothing more powerful than developing a habit… especially one that builds exponentially.

A writer who writes every day for an hour gets so much better than everyone else pretending to be a writer in just a year, that you can easily spot his work from a sea of dreary, boring pieces that you might read.

You don’t get better at anything without practicing. Everybody wants that big deal, that big job, that big offer, that big shot. The truth of the matter is that only those who are actively involved in an industry get those big shots and those big jobs. The only way to be entrenched in an industry is to engage in it.

So be a doer of your thing.

Planning has its value, sure.

But the power of habit is undeniable nevertheless.

You plan & strategize once every few months, and then re-evaluate your plans for their effectiveness every now and then. But it’s the actual execution of the plan… the ritualistic, process-oriented execution that gets you results.

So go forth and conquer.

Yours truly,
